We all have our distinct styles that make us unique and recognizable when we’re out and about in the world. It can be a certain genre of style, an accessory you cannot be seen without or in rarer cases a completely monochromatic palette of wardrobe. Whatever it is, you want to make sure that you have a style that you love, that you’re comfortable in and that is appropriate for your lifestyle. However, sometimes, a style that has worked for years and years just isn’t doing it for you anymore, and you want to change something up. Here’s how to spot the signs that you are ready for a style change.
“I’ve got nothing to wear”
It’s the famous words of many women around the world every single morning. And guess what? All of them are ready for a style change. If you look at your wardrobe and none of your clothes excite you, if all of them make you worry about how they’re going to fit and if you just feel like you wish you had something else – you need something else. It might be a revamped version of the clothes you have or a new style altogether, but it’s a clear sign you need to do something about your wardrobe.
Grabbing different things in stores
Shopping is a wonderful experience, especially if you give yourself the freedom of no lists and a budget that can stretch to just go and shop for the things that you like in stores. When you do that and you notice that all the things you’re gravitating towards aren’t your usual style and they wouldn’t go with things that you usually wear, it’s time for a change. It doesn’t have to be anything drastic – you might just be looking at boyfriend jeans where before you would live in skinny jeans. Style changes don’t need to be big and don’t need to affect your entire wardrobe, it could just be the length of your tops or the fit of your pants but it will make a big difference.
You can’t define your style
If someone asks you to define your style and you have to use 50 words, several movie references and it’s still not really clear what you like to wear – you need a new wardrobe. It’s normal to have things that are left behind from previous style phases of your life and it’s also fine to dress differently for different occasions, but you still need a unified theme that connects all of your clothes, besides being worn on the same body. This is where you should really take some time to look at different inspiration sources, try on different styles to see how they fit on your body and in the end decide what you want your style to be. Then go on and pick out the things in your wardrobe that fit into that style, and let go of everything else.
You feel insecure in what you’re wearing
Clothing is so powerful, and even on the days you don’t really feel your best, it can make you feel confident and beautiful. However, not all clothing does that, and if you find yourself feeling insecure and uncomfortable in a piece – you need to throw it out right away. Go shopping for things that always make you feel like you are on top of the world. Forget having a “power look” – every look that comes out of your closet should be a power look for you. And if what you’re wearing right now isn’t doing that, you need a new style.
Having a cohesive wardrobe in which everything fits and makes you feel good while wearing it is a staple of any person’s life, because we wear our clothes every day and in a world that is very focused on looks, it can make or break how you feel and how your day is going to go. So if you see any of these signs in your wardrobe – change it up.
