A lot of women love to accessorize their everyday outfits with a few beautiful pieces of jewellery. Moreover, some jewellery has a sentimental value and we tend to wear them every day. That can be a delicate necklace we inherited or a pair of earrings we got as a gift. Thus, it is important to keep our jewellery clean so that it could stay gorgeous and so that we could wear it longer. This especially applies to earrings, as they are the most complicated to clean. That is why we bring you a few useful tips on how to clean your earrings without damaging them.
Use hydrogen peroxide and cotton pads
Hydrogen peroxide is great for cleaning earrings, as it is a disinfectant and has antibacterial properties. It also helps restore the shine to your beloved jewellery so that it looks as if it were new. Put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball or a cotton pad and you can start cleaning your jewellery. Be extremely careful and gentle while cleaning delicate jewellery and pay special attention to any edges, corners, and tiny details. Another important step, prior to starting to clean the earrings, is to wash your hands with soap. This way, you will prevent any additional germs getting transferred to the jewellery pieces.
Submerge the earrings in hydrogen peroxide
Cotton pads and cotton balls are quite practical for cleaning earrings. However, when it comes to some fine pieces of jewellery, such as chandelier earrings, the tiny strings of cotton fibre can get caught on the earring during the process of cleaning. Getting the cotton out of your favourite ornament can be a tedious process and to avoid extra work, simply put the cotton pads aside and take a small bowl or cup instead. Fill the bowl with hydrogen peroxide, submerge the earrings in it, and leave them to soak for five to ten minutes. After you have cleaned your earrings with the help of hydrogen peroxide (using cotton pads or soaking them in the liquid), make sure to rinse them in a bowl of water and thus finish the process.
Submerge the earrings in hot water
Take a little bowl and fill it with hot, boiled water. Then put the earrings in the bowl and let them soak for about twenty minutes. After you take the earrings out, gently brush them with a soft toothbrush and use a toothpick to remove the dirt from any areas that are hard to reach. What is great about this easy method is that it kills that germs and is completely safe for all earrings.
Use beer to clean gold earrings
Although it may seem a bit odd, beer can actually be quite helpful in restoring the shine of your stunning, gold earrings. Fill a cup with beer and let your earrings sit in it for approximately ten minutes. Afterwards, take the jewellery out from the cup and gently dry them with a clean cloth. This method will erase any discolouration that has happened in the process of oxidation. Therefore, your earrings will get its old alluring shine back and you will be able to happily wear them again.
Use baking soda for silver earrings
We all use baking soda when making cookies or baking another yummy dessert, but this affordable product also has many cleaning purposes. You can make a mixture of hot water and baking soda and put the prepared liquid in a bowl, which you have previously covered with aluminium foil. Then soak your silver earrings in this mixture and watch as the tarnish from the silver gets transferred into the water. When the process is finished, simply take out your jewellery and dry it with a clean, soft cloth. However, bear in mind that this method is not appropriate for gemstone earrings.
Finally, make your favourite earrings shine like brand new with these easy and safe methods!
